Issues
Rock Island's roads, infrastructure, fleet, and municipal physical assets have suffered from decades-long underfunding and neglect. We cannot continue to balance the city's budget by cutting amortization and failing to budget for expected repairs. We must commit to responsible budgeting and fully fund asset management.
Rock Island has initiated a once-in-a-generation +$8M investment in downtown Rock Island. In combination, the newly formed Rock Island Downtown Alliance is addressing the long-ignored day-to-day needs of keeping downtown Rock Island clean and safe. The City must continue improving downtown Rock Island for long-term success.
Where we once built tractors, we must now invest in the 21st Century economy of technology and services. Rock Island must embrace innovation and attract new industries and workforces. The recently incubated Quad Cities Area Regional Film Office within Rock Island's City Hall demonstrates this can be done.
